What a great way to end the weekend!

We headed down to @elizabethquay to check out Sirens on the Swan, a community event held in conjunction with @dfes_wa

We got to see all manner of emergency vehicles, both past and present and there were lots of demos and interactive activities going on to keep everyone edu-tained! There were even demos on the water featuring the @racwa helicopters, which was very cool to see.

Thank you to our state heroes for coming out to show us what you do to keep us safe. We appreciate you!

Can I be blunt?

October was a shit show.

It started well enough, with us enjoying the last leg of our holiday.

We came home and I was slowly getting back into my work groove... and then there was a sudden death of a family friend.

It was a heavy time. Despite my age, I've never really felt like an adult... but this week I did. I was the first to see the deceased. I formally identified her. I performed the last rites.

And I was grateful that I could do all this.

Then a terminal diagnosis for our much loved Willow. Who is still hanging on but I'll need to research discussing euthanasia with Kiddo. In the meantime, all the cuddles and all the photos.

But things picked up towards the end of the month.

And I was reminded that no matter how crappy life gets, I'm pretty lucky to have my people. The ones who will Facetime me to keep me company during my darkest times. The ones who I can enjoy way too much food with. Gosh, there was so much good food on my birthday and the day after.

I'm grateful for my little family, though appalled that Kiddo is growing up way too fast. I can't believe he can read now, which means I have one less trick up my sleeve.

And to end it all, a funny little reminder popped up when I was out on a work lunch....

So when I heard that Sunshine Coast business @nutworks was 100% Australian owned, grown and operated... I had to drop in!

I'm so glad I did because they have some really unique offerings. Our favourites were:

🥞 Maple Pancake Macadamias 🥞

I'm a sucker for maple, so of course I LOVED this one. Sweet and crunchy with a hint of cinnamon, I immediately grabbed two packets which I hope the boys aren't expecting me to share 🙊

🍋‍🟩 Finger lime and Jalapeno Macadamias 🌶

Creamy macadamias are beautifully contrasted by the zesty, zingy pop of fingerlime and jalapenos. I found this to be the perfect level of spice for me, and I kept going back for more samples. You know, to make sure that I really did like it!

This is a LIMITED EDITION flavour so hop online and grab a bag or 2 while you can!

They also have a range of confectionery, including LAMINGTON macadamias! 😱 Kiddo loved this one and their dark chocolate coated macadamias.

Suffice to say, I spent big here 💸 🙈

Definitely drop into Nutworks if you're in Yandina. It's right across from The Ginger Factory (more on that in a future post!) and makes for a perfect chilled out day with the family.

As I've mentioned, Kiddo has been obsessed with the new @fujiinstaxaus Mini Evo that the grandies got him for our trip.

He went absolutely nuts taking photos of everything. But his sheer focus on trying to capture the blooms and the bees at @toowoombacarnivalflowers really took me by surprise.

But what really floored me was seeing some of the pictures he took. These photos of the flowers were all taken by him. All I've done is crop the original landscape photos to fit Instagram's portrait mode.

So though I joked about his photos in my previous reel, it looks like the kid might have a knack for this photography thing.

Where did September go?

It's been a super packed month for us with so much on and jetting off for a quick holiday over East.

I have so many pictures and videos to share but let me survive the rest of school holidays and getting through my backlog at work first! 🫠

Not pictured but another significant part of this September: dealing with a household of sick cats resulting in my bank account and arms being sacrificed as tribute.

I'm normally team waffles but can you blame me for crushing on the apple crumble pancakes from @ortemtoowoomba 😍

Warm, fluffy buttermilk pancakes are paired with streusel almond crumble, apple compote, maple syrup AND ice cream... YES PLEASE.

I'm genuinely bummed that we couldn't squeeze in a second visit... but Ortem has cemented its place on our Toowoomba hit list for next time!

Hello! Just a quick post to say I'm still alive! 😅

It was a manic week at work before we embarked on our holiday in Queensland. We've had super long days and were thwarted by zero wifi at the motel for the first half of our trip 🫠

I have taken something like 20 gigabytes of videos and photos - I just need to back it all up, cull and put things together!

Speaking of photos, Kiddo got his first hybrid instax camera. Unlike a regular instax (which was his first camera), this camera works like a regular digital camera where you can save the photos to an SD card. You can then choose which photos to print later. Such a cool feature which reduces the wastage and cost of printing every single shot. Plus it's much more convenient to just print at the end of the day than wait after every shot.

It's been amusing to watch Kiddo with his camera. He's clearly picked up on what I do, based on the angles of his shots and how he moves things around before taking photos. At the same time, he's still just an excited kid who is trigger happy and takes photos of everything including signs, shoes and extreme close ups of Atok's face 🤦🏽‍♀️

@felixtheant also dug out his mirrorless camera, so we're a family of photogs! hehe

Can't wait to share more!
